X-Raid 2WD Buggy enters Rally Aragon
July 19, 2016
X-Raid continue the testing and development of their 2WD buggy at the Rally Aragon this weekend. Fitted with 35 x 12.5 R17 Open Country M/T-R tires, the car will be driven again by the legendary former Dakar winner, Jutta Kleinschmidt.
Rally Aragon is the Spanish round of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies and some of the biggest names will participate. Former Dakar winners, Nasser Al-Attiyah, Nani Roma and Carlos Sainz are a formidable line up to test the CBRA buggy against.
Changes to technical regulations have given buggies a boost in Rally Raids. Two wheel drive cars can be lighter and use bigger wheels than the 4x4 cars. The success of a buggy in this year’s Dakar Rally has proven they can compete with the best all wheel drive cars.
Despite winning four Dakar rallies in a row between 2012 and 2015 with their all-conquering Mini All4 Racing, X-Raid recognised that 2WD buggies would become increasingly important. The CBRA buggy project began in 2014 while the team were also running the phenomenally successful Minis in a huge worlwide program. Now, data acquired from the Rally Aragon, will allow the development of the buggy to move forward.
