Racing to a Sustainable Future

19 April 2024

Proxes slick race tires built with sustainable materials win two of first 4 Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie rounds.

Proxes slicks, built using advanced sustainable technologies equipped the Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVOs of team Toyo Tires with Ring Racing to win the first and third rounds of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie in the SP10 class.

The Proxes slick race tyre contains a number of sustainable raw materials. The latest spec, developed at the Nürburgring, uses plant-derived oil, rice husk silica, and recycled bead wire. Creating a product which is both sustainable and effective, even with extreme use. This innovation contributes to Toyo Tires policy of realising a sustainable mobility life.

Two Toyota GR Supra GT4 Evos are contesting the 2024 NLS endurance series aiming to win the SP10 (GT4) class. Both are fitted with the Nürburgring spec Proxes slick developed using sustainable materials. Most recently, the team finished P1 and P2 in their class in the third round of the series on Saturday 13th April as well as taking P2 the following day in the fourth round.

Sustainable Concept Tire
Earlier this year, the company introduced a concept tyre developed comprising its highest ever share - 90% - of sustainable materials. The tyre was displayed at the Tokyo Auto Salon and after, at the recent AMTS Budapest exhibition. This tyre included butadiene rubber derived from CO2 created in the production process which would otherwise have been a waste product. The complete breakdown of recycled and renewal material is illustrated below.

The Proxes slicks evolve the sustainable concept further in a real world extreme situation. The innovative tyres will be used to contest the ultimate endurance challenge at the 2024 Nürburgring 24hours on 1st June.

Toyo Tires utilises the data and knowledge gained through endurance racing in the development of future high-quality, high-performance products. The development contributes to Toyo Tires policy of realising a sustainable mobility life.
