Price: They are trying to get me banned

Welshman reacts to stage bust-up

GERWYN PRICE blasted that players “are trying to get me banned” after he had to be separated from Daryl Gurney on stage as their Unibet Premier League clash turned ugly.

The Northern Irishman snatched a 7-7 with Price but the match ended in a melee of pushing, finger-pointing and verbals in Sheffield last night.

Referee George Noble had to step between the pair to stop it getting really nasty and then had to make sure both left the stage without further confrontation.

Both players are likely to be hauled up before the Darts Regulation Authority for their conduct with Price already under a suspended ban.

Price said: “To be honest I don’t know what happened. He reckons that I’m talking and I’m like if I want to gee myself up I wouldn’t do it when he’s throwing.

“But each to their own and I’m accused of a lot of things. They know that I’m on a sort of curfew and maybe I’ve got a month or two left. I don’t know whether they are trying to get me banned. But it ain’t going to work.

“I shook his hand and I didn’t think there was anything in it, that’s all I know. To be honest I’m just disappointed I didn’t win. I knew if I lost I was out. But I drew and now I’m still in with a fighting chance next week.”

Sky Sports pundit Wayne Mardle blasted that the “players have to control themselves”. He said: It was Daryl who was the initial aggressor. Gerwyn is in a position that he cannot react to anything that’s going on anymore. He’s got this possible six months suspended ban hanging over him because of what happened in the Grand Slam.

“He just cannot react while he did a little. I don’t know what he did wrong. We didn’t see anything.

“We don’t know what was happening or what was said up here."
