Wright: Taylor taught me wind-ups

Snakebite causes Grand Prix stir with World No.1 rivals

PETER WRIGHT admits he learnt to wind-up rivals from Phil Taylor after causing a storm with Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen.

The Livingston-born ace claimed that his biggest opponents “aren’t good enough anymore”.

Price hit back at Snakebite saying that he’s been “absolutely rubbish” so far this year while MVG blasted that they both know he’s still the No.1.

Wright, who plays Dimitri Van den Bergh in the quarters of the World Grand Prix tonight on Friday night, said: “I didn't listen to his interview so I don't care. I learnt it off Phil Taylor, I used to watch him wind everyone up.

“Nowadays everyone has got their headphones in so you can't wind them up in the back room. Everyone is so serious. I'm on the way out so I need to try and win games.

“We've got all the good players in our half, the seeds have dropped out in the other so it'll make it easier for Gezzy.

“There's only one seed left in his side. If I'm going to win this, I've got to play better than that. I got away with that even though I was not nowhere near being pushed."

“I think he'll definitely get in the final and hopefully I can do the same and No.1 and No.2 can battle it out and it'll be good for TV.

“It's very hard but I'm here to do a job and if I've got to win the tournament, I've got to play better than that.

“Impressed with the guys last night especially Gezzy, he played very well. I'm not going to give him no stick, he played very good but missing that many darts at doubles and playing Joe Cullen next, practice your doubles buddy.”

Van Gerwen takes on Chris Dobey and dismissed any mind games from Wright and Price about who is the top man on the oche.

He said: “Back of their mind, they know who the No1 is going to be. I will always keep battling for it until I retire, I won't stop hunting them. They're probably already making excuses for later.”
